Summary

Eskom's 20-year Master Plans provide an illustrative plan that will accommodate current and future energy demands in the respective areas.

SEF's role was to formulate the SEAs which provide an assessment of the most pertinent cumulative impacts of electrical infrastructure on the receiving environments.

The assessments focused on the following environmental constraints: terrestrial ecology, avifauna, hydrology, heritage, landscape character, geology and agriculture.

The first Eskom Central Region SEA Report was finalised in November 2008 following a successful public participation process and an integration session with NETGroup to map out the final Electricity Network Plan on the combined sensitivity map for the area. The three other SEAs are scheduled to be completed before mid-year in 2009.
