Strategic Environmental Assessments (SEA) for Eskom Electricty Network Master Plans
SEF was appointed by NETGroup to develop Strategic Environmental Assessments (SEAs) that will support the development of Electrical Grid Master Plans for the following Eskom Field Service Areas (FSA); Pretoria FSA, Western Cape FSA, Margate FSA and Central Region (Northern Jhb) FSA.
Eskom – Transmission and Distribution Infrastructure
SEF conducted numerous Environmental Impact Assessments, including the:- Kudu Integration Project 400 kV line from Oranjemund in the Northern Cape to Vredendal in the Western Cape (a distance of 400km);
- Mercury - Perseus 765 kV Transmission Line, Free State, which is 250km in length;
- Voorspoed 132 kV Distribution Line, Free State;
- Eskom Komati River Augmentation Project.
Eskom Hendrina-Prairie-Marathon
SEF conducted the Environmental Impact Assessment for the proposed construction of the Hendrina – Prairie – Marathon Transmission Lines. In addition to the EIA, various specialist studies were also undertaken as part of the process.
Eskom Spencer-Tabor
SEF undertook the Environmental Impact Assessment for the proposed Tabor – Spencer 275 kV Transmission Power Line. Both substations will also be upgraded and refurbished. In addition to the EIA, various specialist studies were also undertaken as part of the process.
Swaziland Cogeneration
SEF executed the Environmental Impact Assessment for a cogeneration plant at the Ubombo Sugar Factory at Big Bend in Swaziland.
Swaziland Electricity Board
Environmental Impact Assessments and Planning for country-wide sub-transmission electrical infrastructure development was conducted by SEF on behalf of the Swaziland Electricity Board.
Visual Impact Assessment for Eskom
SEF assessed the visual impact of over 2 000km of proposed transmission lines in all nine provinces of South Africa. SEF’s visual assessments of the proposed Kendal and Vaal South coal-fired power stations considered the visual impacts on viewers up to 20km from the site.
